Your Move

We are a Your Move School!

Your Move is a Department of Transport program that encourages students and their families to get active by walking, scooting and riding to school. These behavioural changes help foster lifelong healthy and positive habits and improve concentration and academic performance for students, while also reducing traffic and improving safety around the school.

Everyone can get involved in Your Move. Do you live too far away? Why not drive to a nearby park or café and then walk the rest of the way? Concerned about safety? Why not join your kids in walking or riding to school once a week? Small changes still make a big difference.

The City of Kwinana sponsored our school to develop a Safe Routes to School Access Guide in partnership with The Department of Transport and WestCycle. Orelia Primary School’s Safe Routes to School Access Guide is a leaflet that maps six safe and popular walking, wheeling and riding routes to our school.

The map also includes local amenities, ‘park and walk’ locations, location of school bike parking, high traffic areas, and local walking and riding infrastructure. Please see our Safe Routes to School Access Guide below –

You can download a copy of our Safe Routes to School Access Guide here

We earn Your Move points by posting stories and photos of our active transport adventures on the website; these can translate into grants to fund active transport facilities and activities for the school and other rewards.

Rizzy Rider’s Big Breakfast – WA Bike Month Celebration 2025

Orelia Primary School proudly celebrated WA Bike Month with our whole-school Rizzy Rider’s Big Breakfast, thanks to a $750 grant from the Department of Transport. Students and families were invited to enjoy a delicious breakfast together while promoting the benefits of active travel.

The morning was filled with excitement as students brought their bikes and scooters to take part in a time trial circuit, obstacle course, Red Light/Green Light, and our popular Best Dressed Bike or Scooter competition. Representatives from the City of Kwinana and local police officers also joined us, helping reinforce positive messages around road safety and community connection.

This event was a huge success, with strong participation from families and students. It was a wonderful way to promote riding and scooting to school and highlight the importance of healthy, active lifestyles.

During Term 2 2024 we were lucky enough to win a Super Boost grant that enabled us to have four sessions of Bike Education for all students in Years 3-6. Students were able to build on skills learnt from week to week, increasing their confidence and understanding of riding a bike and the road rules. We are hoping that this program will allow more students to actively come to school. The video below is a snapshot of the program.
